Stiff-person syndrome

Stiff person syndrome (SPS) is a rare, chronic autoimmune disorder of the central nervous system with an unknown etiology, characterized by excessive contraction of the trunk and lower limb muscles, accompanied by painful muscle spasms. This disease is more common in adults, with rare onset in childhood, and the incidence in women is approximately twice that in men. The main manifestations of this disease are severe stiffness and spasms of the trunk and limbs (especially the legs), accompanied by significant pain and impaired mobility.
