Intraventricular hemorrhage and hematoma refer to a syndrome caused by the rupture of intracranial blood vessels and the entry of blood into the ventricular system. In cases of small hemorrhages, the blood often does not coagulate due to the diluting effect of cerebrospinal fluid. In cases of large hemorrhages, hematomas can form.
It can be divided into two categories: spontaneous and traumatic. Spontaneous intraventricular hemorrhage is further divided into primary and secondary types:
Primary intraventricular hemorrhage refers to bleeding originating from the choroid plexus, within the ventricles, and within 1.5 cm of the ventricular wall, which then ruptures into the ventricles.
Secondary intraventricular hemorrhage refers to bleeding in the subependymal region beyond 1.5 cm or subarachnoid hemorrhage, where the hematoma ruptures or flows backward into the ventricles.
The main symptoms include headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, impaired consciousness, nuchal rigidity, high fever, and hemiplegia.
