Ventriculitis, also known as ependymitis, refers to an intracranial infection occurring in the ventricular system and its surrounding areas. It often develops secondary to craniocerebral trauma or surgery (especially prolonged external ventricular drainage) and is a severe postoperative complication caused by bacterial invasion of the ventricles.
Symptoms include fever, nuchal rigidity (stiff neck, limited movement), pupillary changes, and seizures.
