Cerebral cysticercosis

Cerebral cysticercosis is an intracranial disease primarily caused by Taenia solium infection. It often results from the ingestion of Taenia solium eggs, which develop into cysticerci in the body and then migrate through the digestive tract to the meninges, brain parenchyma, and cerebral ventricles. Patients experience severe damage to brain tissue and the central nervous system, manifesting as headaches, general weakness, and motor dysfunction. In severe cases, symptoms may include epilepsy, blurred vision, or even blindness. This disease has a worldwide distribution, with a higher prevalence in developing countries. In China, it is more common in the Northeast and North China regions, followed by the Northwest region and Yunnan Province, and less common south of the Yangtze River.
