Subacute necrotizing myelitis

The spinal cord controls four types of fibers: somatic motor, somatic sensory, visceral motor, and visceral sensory fibers. It governs muscle contraction and glandular secretion, enabling the normal functioning of various organs and tissues in the human body. The spinal cord itself requires an adequate blood supply to function properly. Subacute necrotizing myelopathy occurs when vascular malformations or other factors disrupt the blood circulation to the spinal cord, leading to progressive spinal cord damage. It is more common in men over 50 years old and can manifest as paralysis, motor and sensory impairments, among other symptoms.
