Periodic paralysis

Periodic paralysis is a group of metabolic disorders characterized by recurrent attacks of flaccid paralysis of skeletal muscles, associated with potassium metabolism. It can be classified into three types: hypokalemic, hyperkalemic, and normokalemic. Among these, hypokalemic periodic paralysis is more common in males aged 20-40 years, while hyperkalemic periodic paralysis is more common in males under 10 years of age. It often presents as recurrent attacks of symmetrical muscle weakness, frequently affecting the limb muscles.
