Ulcerative colitis is a chronic non-specific inflammatory bowel disease of unknown etiology, primarily affecting the mucosa and submucosa of the rectum and colon. This disease is common in middle-aged and young adults, with a slightly higher incidence in males than females. The main symptoms include abdominal pain, diarrhea, and bloody stools.
