Duodenal ulcer is a localized inflammatory lesion caused by excessive gastric acid secretion and/or weakened duodenal mucosal defense, leading to the erosion of the duodenal mucosa by gastric acid. It is common in young and middle-aged adults, with a peak incidence between 20 and 40 years old. It rarely undergoes malignant transformation and often presents as pain on an empty stomach or hunger pain.
