Hypergastrinemia

Gastrin is a hormone secreted by G cells in the gastrointestinal tract. G cells are mainly distributed in the gastric antrum, with some also found in the gastric fundus, duodenum, and jejunum. Any factor that can increase G cell numbers or promote gastrin secretion can lead to hypergastrinemia, primarily caused by gastrinoma. Because gastrin causes excessive gastric acid, it can lead to symptoms such as refractory peptic ulcers, ulcer bleeding, gastrointestinal perforation, gastrointestinal stricture, and diarrhea.
