Pituitary adenomas are a group of tumors originating from the anterior and posterior lobes of the pituitary gland and craniopharyngeal duct epithelial remnants.
Pituitary adenomas are the third most common primary brain tumors in adults, after meningiomas and gliomas, accounting for 12% to 19% of all brain tumors.
They can occur at any age, but the incidence increases with age.
