Graves' disease, also known as toxic diffuse goiter, is an autoimmune thyroid disease characterized by a clinical syndrome resulting from excessive thyroid hormone secretion due to immune system dysfunction. Graves' disease is more common in women, with a high incidence between 20 and 50 years of age. Common symptoms include hypermetabolic syndrome, diffuse goiter, ophthalmopathy, skin lesions, and pretibial myxedema.
