Retroperitoneal fibrosis

The peritoneum is a membrane in the human abdominal cavity that covers most of the organs within it. Retroperitoneal fibrosis is a condition caused by retroperitoneal fibrous hardening and tissue proliferation, leading to fibrous tissue encapsulating and compressing retroperitoneal organs and vital structures, such as the ureters and inferior vena cava, thereby causing a series of diseases and symptoms. Retroperitoneal fibrosis is a rare disease, with an onset age concentrated between 40 and 70 years, and it is more common in males, with a male-to-female ratio typically ranging from 2-3:1.
