Polyarteritis nodosa (PAN) is a necrotizing vasculitis affecting the entire wall of medium and small arteries. It can occur at any age, but is most common in men aged 40-60 years.
Clinical manifestations vary depending on the affected arteries. Some cases are limited to the skin, known as cutaneous PAN. Others involve multiple organs or systems, with the kidneys, gastrointestinal tract, heart, nerves, and skin being most commonly affected.
