Rheumatic fever

Rheumatic fever is an autoimmune disease caused by the body's immune system attacking its own normal tissues after a throat infection with group A beta-hemolytic streptococcus. It commonly affects people aged 5 to 15 years and is more prevalent during the winter and spring rainy seasons. Key symptoms include migratory polyarthritis, carditis, subcutaneous nodules, erythema marginatum, and chorea.
