Detailed description
Pulmonary bulla, also known as lung bulla, refers to the formation of air-filled cysts larger than 1 cm in diameter within the lung tissue due to increased intra-alveolar pressure, rupture of alveolar walls, and subsequent fusion of ruptured alveoli caused by various factors.
Generally, small, solitary pulmonary bullae are asymptomatic. Larger or multiple pulmonary bullae can cause symptoms such as chest tightness, shortness of breath, and dyspnea.
Males, tall and thin adults, and long-term smokers are more prone to developing pulmonary bullae.
