Detailed description
A chalazion, also known as a meibomian cyst or meibomian gland lipogranuloma, is an idiopathic chronic non-suppurative inflammation of the meibomian gland. The meibomian glands in the eyelids secrete oil to keep the eyes moist, but when their ducts become blocked, it can lead to the formation of a cyst, known as a chalazion.
A chalazion presents as a red, swollen lump on the eyelid, and the cyst can range in size from a grain of rice to a soybean.
