Blepharospasm refers to involuntary spastic contractions of the orbicularis oculi muscles of the eyelids and periorbital area, manifesting as frequent blinking or progressively worsening difficulty opening the eyes in one or both eyes.
According to the etiology, it can be divided into primary blepharospasm and secondary blepharospasm. Primary blepharospasm refers to blepharospasm of unknown cause, also known as idiopathic blepharospasm. Secondary blepharospasm refers to blepharospasm secondary to certain diseases.
