Tuberculous pleurisy

The pleura is a membrane located between the lungs and the chest wall, consisting of two layers: the outer parietal pleura and the inner visceral pleura. The closed space formed by these two layers is the pleural cavity. Tuberculous pleurisy refers to inflammatory changes in the pleura caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection, and it is one of the most common forms of pleurisy. This disease is prevalent among young and middle-aged working populations. It is more common in rural areas than in urban areas, and more frequent in males than in females. With the aging population in China, there has also been an increase in elderly patients. The main symptoms include fever, dry cough, chest pain, chest tightness, shortness of breath, and dyspnea.
