Pneumocystis pneumonia

Pneumocystis pneumonia (PCP), also known as Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia, is an opportunistic fungal infection of the lungs caused by the fungus Pneumocystis jirovecii. This disease is common in patients with AIDS or those undergoing cancer radiotherapy/chemotherapy, organ transplantation, and other immunocompromised individuals. The main symptoms include fever, often low-grade, dry cough, chest tightness, and shortness of breath, which gradually worsen. Other non-specific symptoms such as fatigue, diarrhea, and weight loss may also be present.
