Pneumococcal pneumonia

Pneumococcus, also known as Streptococcus pneumoniae, and formerly Diplococcus pneumoniae, primarily causes lung infections, but can also infect other parts of the body, such as the blood and cerebrospinal fluid. Pneumococcal pneumonia refers to lung infection caused by pneumococcus. It is more common in winter and spring, often occurring concurrently with respiratory viral infections. Main symptoms include high fever, cough, chills, bloody sputum, and chest pain.
