Alport syndrome

Alport syndrome, also known as hereditary progressive nephritis or oculo-auditory-renal syndrome, is one of the most common inherited kidney diseases. Clinically, it is primarily characterized by hematuria and progressive decline in renal function. Some patients may also experience sensorineural hearing loss and ocular abnormalities. Alport syndrome is a hereditary disorder, with X-linked dominant inheritance being the most common mode of inheritance. Alport syndrome can be classified into three types based on clinical presentation: X-linked dominant inheritance: This accounts for 85% of Alport syndrome patients. Autosomal recessive inheritance: This includes 10% of Alport syndrome patients. Autosomal dominant inheritance: This includes approximately 5% of Alport syndrome patients.
