Leukocytosis

Leukocytes, commonly known as white blood cells, are a type of blood cell found in the blood. They play a role in fighting off pathogens and purifying the blood, making them an important cellular component of blood. An increase in leukocytes can be seen as a self-protective response of the body. Leukocytosis is actually an abnormal condition that patients or their families cannot or can hardly detect, and it is often discovered only during a routine blood test. There are many reasons for an elevated white blood cell count. Leukocytosis can occur due to physiological reasons such as strenuous exercise, emotional fluctuations, late pregnancy in women, after a full meal, and in extreme heat or cold environments. In addition, various diseases such as infections (e.g., common cold, pneumonia, enteritis) and hematological disorders can also lead to an elevated white blood cell count. The most common causes are infection and abnormal bone marrow hematopoietic function.
