Tethered cord syndrome

Tethered cord syndrome is a general term describing a specific abnormal state of the spinal cord and its related symptoms. It is caused by various etiologies that lead to the spinal cord being stretched, reducing its physiological range of motion. This often results in a low-lying conus medullaris, pathophysiological abnormalities of the conus medullaris, and manifestations of genitourinary, neurological, and/or musculoskeletal dysfunction. Tethered cord syndrome typically presents in childhood, with a small number of cases occurring in adulthood.
