Detailed description
Carotid artery aneurysm refers to an aneurysm of the common carotid artery, the extracranial segment of the internal carotid artery, and the external carotid artery and its branches. It commonly occurs at the carotid bifurcation, with a few cases occurring in the internal carotid artery and the common carotid artery trunk.
These aneurysms are rare and are mostly unilateral lesions. The main symptom is a palpable, pulsatile, and expansive mass on the affected side of the neck, which may cause compressive symptoms such as hoarseness, choking during eating, and dyspnea.
