Bicuspid aortic valve

The aortic valve is located between the left ventricle and the aorta. Normally, it should have three leaflets: the left coronary leaflet, the right coronary leaflet, and the non-coronary leaflet. Bicuspid aortic valve (BAV), also known as bicuspid aortic valve malformation, is a congenital heart defect. In patients with this condition, the aortic valve has only two leaflets due to partial fusion, which obstructs blood flow from the left ventricle into the aorta, leading to a series of severe symptoms and potentially causing death.
