Detailed description
The thoracic aorta is a major artery located within the chest cavity. A thoracic aortic aneurysm refers to a localized or diffuse dilation or bulging of the thoracic aorta, caused by various factors that damage the normal structure of the aortic wall. This dilation reaches 1.5 times or more than the normal diameter of the thoracic aorta.
The blood pressure and shear stress within the thoracic aorta are extremely high. If an aneurysm ruptures, the bleeding rate and volume are very large, leading to an extremely high mortality rate.
