Tracheoesophageal fistula

Tracheoesophageal fistula refers to the formation of a fistula between the trachea and the esophagus, connecting the two tubes. This allows food to enter the trachea, causing symptoms such as choking. This condition can be divided into two types: congenital and acquired. Congenital tracheoesophageal fistula mostly occurs in newborns and is often associated with congenital esophageal atresia. Acquired tracheoesophageal fistula is more common in adults. The main symptoms are severe coughing and choking when drinking or eating.
