Breast nodules refer to small nodules that occur in the breast. It is a common term, and whether they are self-palpated or found during a physical examination, they can be described as breast nodules. Breast nodules can also be called breast masses or breast lumps. Not all breast nodules are breast tumors; 80% of breast nodules are benign upon biopsy. Clinically, breast nodules are a manifestation of various breast diseases, such as mammary gland hyperplasia, breast fibroadenoma, and breast cancer. Breast nodules can occur cyclically, such as in mammary gland hyperplasia, appearing before menstruation and disappearing after menstruation; they can also persist and gradually enlarge, such as in breast cancer. Breast nodules are very common clinically, mostly seen in women over 40 years old.
