The visual field refers to the maximum area that can be seen when both eyes are looking straight ahead, also known as peripheral vision. When both eyes are fixed straight ahead, the visual field within 30° of the fixation point is called the central visual field, and the visual field beyond 30° is called the peripheral visual field. A normal visual field includes two aspects: first, the visual field has a certain range; second, within the visual field, except for the physiological blind spot, the sensitivity to light in all parts of the visual field is normal. Visual field examination is to check the patient's visual field. According to the principles of visual field examination, there are two methods: kinetic perimetry and static perimetry: Kinetic perimetry: The subject's gaze is fixed, and a target of the same intensity is gradually moved from an area invisible to the subject to a visible area. The intersection of the visible and invisible areas is called the threshold. Static perimetry: While keeping both the subject's gaze and the target fixed, the light intensity of the target is continuously increased to test the threshold between the invisible and visible light intensities at a certain point in the subject's visual field.

When the proportions of these three photosensitive pigments are normal, it is called trichromacy. If only two are normal, it is called dichromacy, and if only one is normal, it is called monochromacy. Color vision testing assesses whether a patient's color vision is normal, including psychophysical tests (subjective tests) and visual electrophysiological tests (objective tests). Subjective tests: These include pseudoisochromatic plates (Ishihara charts), hue arrangement tests, and anomaloscopes, which are commonly used clinical methods. Objective tests: These include electroretinography and color visual evoked potentials.
