Mitral annular calcification
Mitral annular calcification
The mitral valve is located between the left atrium and the left ventricle, and its main function is to prevent blood from flowing backward. Mitral annular calcification refers to the deposition of calcium salts around the heart valve, causing the valve to narrow or fail to close properly. Mild cases of this condition are asymptomatic, while severe cases may present with symptoms such as dyspnea, hemoptysis, and coughing.
