Ventricular tachycardia
Ventricular tachycardia
Ventricular tachycardia (VT) is defined as three or more consecutive abnormal ventricular beats originating from the His-Purkinje system or ventricular myocardium, with a heart rate greater than 100 beats/minute. This condition is commonly seen in patients with organic heart diseases such as coronary heart disease, valvular heart disease, cardiomyopathy, and heart failure. Mild cases may be asymptomatic or have mild symptoms, while severe cases can present with palpitations, chest tightness, angina, and even shock or syncope. These patients are at high risk of developing ventricular flutter or ventricular fibrillation, which can be life-threatening, and thus require active treatment.
