Platybasia
Platybasia is a common congenital bone malformation in the craniocervical junction. It is usually asymptomatic when it occurs alone and is often associated with basilar invagination. The floors of the middle cranial fossa, anterior cranial fossa, and clivus are all invaginated into the cranium, causing the cranial base angle to exceed 145 degrees, which is diagnostically significant. Simple platybasia is generally asymptomatic.

Meningocele refers to the protrusion of the meninges and cerebrospinal fluid from the spinal canal through a spina bifida defect due to incomplete closure of the spinal canal during fetal development. Meningocele often occurs in the dorsal midline of the spine, most commonly in the lumbosacral region, followed by the cervicothoracic region.

Tethered cord syndrome is a general term describing a specific abnormal state of the spinal cord and its related symptoms. It is caused by various etiologies that lead to the spinal cord being stretched, reducing its physiological range of motion. This often results in a low-lying conus medullaris, pathophysiological abnormalities of the conus medullaris, and manifestations of genitourinary, neurological, and/or musculoskeletal dysfunction. Tethered cord syndrome typically presents in childhood, with a small number of cases occurring in adulthood.
