Myocardial bridge
Myocardial bridging is a congenital vascular anatomical variation. Normally, the main trunk and major branches of the coronary arteries are distributed on the epicardial surface, supplying oxygen and energy to the heart. If, during development, a coronary artery is enveloped and covered by the myocardium, running within the heart muscle, the segment of myocardium covering this vessel is called a myocardial bridge, and the covered vessel segment running within the myocardium is called a tunneled coronary artery. During cardiac contraction, this segment of the vessel running within the myocardium may be compressed by the heart, causing vascular narrowing, affecting the blood supply to subsequent coronary artery segments, and leading to ischemia in the corresponding part of the heart.
